The brief

Civilistix Consulting Engineers were appointed to prepare a Private Drainage Detailed design for an existing dwelling including external hardstanding areas. The latest masterplan showed that there were alterations to the existing dwelling, including a rear extension and the creation of additional external hardstanding areas.

What we did

Our design used the carrier pipes around the proposed building to run the foul water, under gravity, to the existing chamber onsite. This was then connected to the existing public sewer within Elsworth Road.

In order to design the drainage solution, we followed the surface water drainage hierarchy. An intrusive Ground Investigation Report was undertaken which proved that infiltration systems were unsuitable due to London clay.

Following OS mapping and topographical survey we established that there was no watercourse within the vicinity of the site. It was therefore proposed a controlled discharge was made to the existing sewer.

A CCTV drainage survey was undertaken and we proposed using some of the existing drainage pipeline system. ACO channels and perforated pipes were proposed to serve the hardstanding areas of the development.
