The brief

Civilistix Consulting Engineers were appointed to undertake full highway and drainage design for 10 proposed dwellings at Southend, Bassingbourn.

What we did

Our design work initially involved discharging drainage and hardstanding planning conditions and then preparing detailed design drawings of the works.

Given the ground was unsuitable for infiltration and no watercourses were in vicinity of the site, we agreed a controlled surface water connection via S106 with Anglian Water to an existing foul water sewer.

Our SuDS design utilised permeable surfacing throughout the development,  providing necessary treatment and attenuation storage cost effectively with the remainder of runoff stored within geo-cellular storage crates. Our approach maximised the extent of development allowing an additional large housing parcel to come forward.

We value engineered the S278 access proposals with highways, successfully negotiating the omission of an additional drainage gully and proposed overlaying works to the existing carriageway saving both cost and construction time.
